Friday  25th December 2015                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                           There are references to the vital 75% throughout my website as I have always believed that the flight of the ball is a result of what the golfer has done before impact rather than a belief that a good shot can be produced with mind over matter.

The 75% is everything the golfer does prior to starting the back swing and this applies to every shot from a putt to a drive.

In 1987 one of my pupils, Robert Lee, won the Portuguese Open. Robert played the first nine holes in the first round in a world record score of 27 shots with a total for the round of 61. I gave Robert many golf lessons in my studio at the Army Golf Club, Aldershot.UK and the camera I was using then was very expensive but no where near as good as the cameras I now use. Because of the lighting and the camera the impact position was just a blur. Because of the size of the studio real golf balls could not be used so I used light weight golf balls that would not hit the nets and then push the net into the walls. The studio was enclosed so we never saw the flight of the ball. The shots were hit off old coconut mats.

One would imagine that this was not a perfect scenario for producing European Tour Winners but it did. Wayne Riley won the 1991 Australian Open after many lessons in the same studio and with same equipment.

The reason why it worked so well was because my lessons are based on the static elements, the grip, aim, stance and posture. The Vital 75% of the shot.

We never saw the flight of the golf  ball.

We did not use real golf balls. We never saw the impact position but the whole process worked beautifully.

Using the same principles Mark Plummer in 1999 had a gross 59 at Truro Golf Club,Cornwall UK. A score that has never been equalled or beaten in the PGA West Region and Gary Wolstenholme reduced his handicap from +1 to +5 and he has been the most successful amateur golfer ever in the UK.

I could produce many more examples but the whole point of this blog is to encourage all golfers to set up to the ball correctly and there is absolutely no reason why ( unless there a physical reason ) most golfers cannot set up to the correctly.

The main reason why a very large percentage of the 61,000,000 million golfers do not is that their thoughts are on the shot and not on how to produce the shot.

I willingly give all of my pupils a guarantee that they will improve their scores if they focus on the vital 75%.
