3rd April 2018.
Exactly 14 years ago to the day I was at Augusta filming the best golfers in the world to use in my lessons.
I was there because one of my pupils, Gary Wolstenholme had won the Amateur Championship in 2003 and he kindly gave me two tickets for five days to watch one of the best golf tournaments in the world. It was magnificent and if you have the chance to go then I would urge you to go.
My wife and I spent a few days in Florida with friends before the tournament and the conversation inevitably turned to the Masters. I was asked who was going to win. Ben Hogan when asked the same question always gave the same answer – the player with the lowest score.
Much to the suprise of the other guests I said Phil Mickelson would win – they all disagreed but he did win and I was delighted as he is such a great ambassoder for the best game in the world.
My pupils alwaws ask me who will win this year and Ben Hogan will always be correct but my three choices this year are Phil Mickelson, Bubba Watson and Justin Thomas.
We shall see.
