Swing thoughts are very useful reminders and choosing the right ones can definitely improve your scores.
One of my swing thoughts from many years ago was my three second rule.
As soon as the club head has hit the ball and the ball is on its way I would count for three seconds by which time the ball would be approximately half way through its flight.
The absolute key for me was that I now had no control of the ball so I would watch where it had gone, go and find it and decide how to play the NEXT shot and spend no time on analysing the last shot.
This absolutely works.
The practice area or during a lesson is where you analyse your shots bearing in mind that the shot is produced by the swing and the swing follows on from the stance.
I read a few years ago that Tiger Woods had exactly the same thought process but he waited for 10 seconds.
All good golfers apply this thought, consciously or not, as it clears one’s mind for the only important shot – the NEXT one.
