I have taught Eric Cross since the mid 1980’s.
When Eric started playing golf he only used irons & within two years he had a single figure handicap.
Eric had worked out that the key to scoring was to keep the ball on the fairway.
Having improved rapidly with that philosophy Eric moved onto woods and played between a four and six handicap for many years.
His best score was in a medal at Canford Magna Golf Club ( sadly no longer in existence ) where he scored a gross 65 – nett 59.
I have mentioned Eric’s background as in all of his many lessons we had worked on his address position most of the time.
Imagine my surprise when in his last lesson, just a few weeks ago, Eric’s feet were aiming 30 degrees to the right and the clubhead 10 degrees to the left.
The position of your feet to me is very important as they are your only contact with the ground and the clubhead hits the ball.
Your feet should point approximately 17 degrees to the left of the target line and the club head at the target or a couple of degrees to the right.
Eric , for some unknown reason, was doing the opposite.
We simply made sure his feet and club face were correct and I had a message the following day about his dramatic improvement.
Please check your feet and club head before EVERY shot.
