I had a phone call recently from a man whose golfing friends had been to see and they had all improved their games so could he also come for a golf lesson.
The man was as fit as a fiddle & his mind as sharp as a pin.
He loved playing golf & had played for almost 80 years.
As always I explained that the stance is 75% of the shot which he readily agreed to.
Imagine his reaction when I showed him that his feet were aiming 51 degrees to the right (closed).
I explained that Bobby Jones, one of the world’s best golfers & Justin Rose both had their stances 17 degrees open.
17 degrees open means that if you draw a line across your toes that line will aim 17 degrees to the left of the target line ( where the club face should be aiming ).
The toe line should always be to the left of the target so your body can shift left and turn coming down & through.
We simply aligned his feet to his left & the ability to move through the shot was instant.
What I found extremely sad was that in all of the time that he had played no – one had told him.
Your feet are the only part of your body touching the ground & I think the placement of your feet are of paramount importance.
Please take a look at Teaching Videos 5 & 6 and check where your toes are pointing.
Peter Thompson.
