Eric Cross is one of my partners in Peter Thompson Golf and I have taught Eric since the mid 1980’s.

Eric was a very keen footballer but he damaged both knees & he was advised to stop playing football. He had always wanted to play golf so this was the opportunity to commence a less dangerous sport.

Eric has a keen analytical brain & he realised that the woods hit the ball further but not necessarily in the right direction.

His plan was to keep the ball in play so for two years Eric only used irons & his handicap came down to nine.

Eric then introduced woods to his game & his handicap went down to four & he played between four & six for years.

Eric was still off six when he had his finest round at Canford Magna Golf Club in Dorset UK ( the course sadly does not exist anymore ).

Playing in a medal in 2010 he scored a gross 65 nett 59.

Eric is still playing off a very comfortable handicap of 14.                                                                                                                                            99% of golfers – see Top Tip 43 would lower their scores with a little more thought when driving off the tee.

Please look at Teaching Video 44 in conjunction with Top Tip 43 & hopefully & you will realise the importance of the first shot.

Jack Nicklaus once said ” drive off with a four iron if it keeps you in play”
